I’ve got no idea how how cutting off koala’s ears is good preperation for fire season but I’m willing to do my part.

I think it’s an effort to de-cute them, in an effort to avoid another embarrassing Sam the Koala-style international phenomenon.
It’s to make them more arty, like Van Gogh, and sell fundraiser paintings to save the forest.
